Southern California Edison One Step Closer to Completing Major Renewable Energy Project
SCE has completed the first part of the renewable energy project named the Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project which currently is capable of delivering 700 MW of green energy from a combination of wind farms, solar power plants, and other renewable energy sources in Northern California.
When complete the Tehachapi Renewable Transmission Project will be capable of providing enough green energy to serve 3 million homes. This project includes a series of new high voltage transmission lines that deliver 4,500 MW of renewable energy from wind farms, solar power, and other green energy sources located throughout Northern California.
SCE is dedicated to being a leader in the renewable energy sector. In 2009 they delivered 13.6 billion kWh of renewable energy which is about 17 percent of their total energy portfolio. The Tehachapi project is the first major California transmission project designed specifically to access renewable energy. Within the next five years SCE predicts they’ll invest $21.5 billion to expand and strengthen the California region’s power grid with renewable energy.
